Labour party gathers in Kendal for energy price rise petition

LOCAL Labour party activists will campaign against rising energy prices in Kendal tomorrow (Weds Dec 4).

Members will be at The Birdcage in Finkle Street between 12pm-2pm.

It follows Labour leader Ed Miliband's pledge to 'freeze' energy prices for 20 months if the party wins the 2015 General Election.

A series of national energy giants have hiked prices by as much as 10 per cent at the onset of winter.

Members of South Lakes Labour will be asking people tomorrow to sign a petition supporting the price cap and the reform of Britain’s energy industry.

It says the coalition government has recently announced plans to change the make-up of energy bills to limit rising prices for consumers by removing green levies.

However, it has been predicted that most customers will still see their bills rise this winter, said local campaigners.

Paul Braithwaite, local Labour leader, commented: “The rising cost of living is a real problem for people. Bills are rising faster than wages and many people are going to find it hard to make ends meet this winter.”

“We need to stop energy bills rising. Nothing less than a price freeze and energy market reset will do.”

If Milliband had kept his mouth shut about planning to freeze prices, perhaps the big 6 wouldn't have been in a hurry to announce price rises
