FIFTEEN Ulverston residents are appealing for the community to support the official launch of a new Friends Of Coronation Hall group.

A meeting takes place at the venue on Thursday night (Dec 5) from 6pm to official launch the new group.

The initiative has been set up to provide volunteer and fund-raising support to the hall in the event that its ownership might change - as well as commemorating its 100th anniversary in 2014.

The hall is currently subsidised by South Lakeland District Council to the tune of around £300,000 which wants to see the venue become more profitable and reduce its annual grant.

The Friends of Coronation Hall says it is not bidding to take over the running of the venue and explained that Ulverston Town Council is exploring the viability of doing so, although no decision has been made.

The Friends group is appealing to those organisations who use the hall on a regular basis to become a member.
