MOTORISTS are being warned of possible delays over an £80,000 Highways Agency project to resurface on a Shap slip road.

One lane of the northbound exit road at junction 39 on the M6 will be closed from 8pm until 6am between December 9 and December 16 with diversions in place.

Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Gee said: “The surface along the exit slip road at junction 39 is at the end of its serviceable life and needs replacing. Drivers will benefit from safer, smoother journeys onto the junction.

“When the northbound exit slip road is closed, drivers will need to travel to junction 40 at Penrith, turn round to rejoin the southbound carriageway and use the southbound exit slip road at junction 39.

“They can then use the southbound exit slip road after travelling up to junction 40 at Penrith and joining the southbound carriageway from there.”
