A Westmorland music charity has set up a new fund to support young singers.
The Westmorland Music Council has launched the fund, with £15,000 already donated from the family of Katharine Pottinger.
It is to be named the Katharine Pottinger Memorial Fund, in memory of the mother-of-three who died in May this year, aged 79.
Jim Pottinger said: “I wanted to do something in memory of my wife and this is something that she would have liked very much because she was so involved in the festival and with singers and musicians throughout the area.”
Mrs Pottinger was well-known for her passionate support of choral singing and for her work for the Mary Wakefield Westmorland Music Festival.
The fund will be specifically for young singers at school or college who need assistance with their fees and to help them develop their craft. To donate to the fund, contact Secretary, Hester Willink on 01524 781203.
