ENFORCEMENT action is to be taken against a Kirkby Lonsdale businessman after he carried out work on a listed building without permission.

South Lakeland District Council authorised action to be taken against the owner of Isaacs Jewellers, on Main Street, who replaced a shop front window without listed building consent.

An officer had inspected the changes and concluded they ‘caused considerable harm to the special interest of the listed building’.

“The owner sought planning advice in 2011 to make this alteration because he was concerned about security,” said a council planner.

“He was informed in writing that such a change would not be supported.”

Coun Ian McPherson told the planning committee: “This is a listed building and work can’t be carried out without permission.”
