A DRIVER who killed one of his friends by crashing at high speed into a concrete gatepost on a Kendal street has been warned by a judge that he faces a “significant” prison sentence.
James Oliver, 29, was charged after 21-year-old Robert Clinton, of Well Ings, Kendal, died in the crash in Aynam Road late on the evening of Saturday March 23.
Mr Clinton, known as 'H' to his friends, was in the front passenger seat of a silver Peugeot which left the road on a bend. He died almost instantly.
Oliver, who was living in Kendal at the time of the crash but now has an address in Lancing Close, Halewood, Liverpool, pleaded guilty to a charge of causing Mr Clinton’s death by dangerous driving.
He was remanded in custody for probation reports and will be sentenced on January 10.
