THE Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) for the Yorkshire Three Peaks region has received a substantial donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.
The donation of £1,102 has been used to purchase eight specialist life jackets which will help keep search and rescue operations safe when in, or close to water.
The CRO covers an area around North Yorkshire and some parts of Lancashire and Cumbria that are close to the Three Peaks.
The region has a number of gorges and fast-flowing rivers, most notably on the Ingleton waterfalls trail. These areas present potentially dangerous and challenging hazards for the organisation’s members.
Heather Eastwood, chair of the CRO, said: “We provide a well-trained emergency service to many thousands of visitors and local people 365 days a year.
“As a voluntary organisation we are almost entirely reliant on donations such as the one provided by Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, which are vital to help us purchase specialised equipment.
“Personal safety is paramount so we cannot thank the Society enough for their kind donation.”
Joanne Varey, manager of the Yorkshire’s Lancaster branch, said: “As a Society we’re committed to supporting local good causes such as the Cave Rescue Organisation.
“The volunteers provide a fantastic service to those visiting the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas so we are more than happy we’ve been able to help.”
