South Lakes chefs pass on their recipe for success to local students

SOME of the best chefs in South Lakeland have passed on the secrets of their success through a series of lessons with local students.

Cooks from Wilf’s, Staveley, Staff of Life, Kendal, and Baba Ganoush, Kendal, teamed up with the South Lakes Foyer to offer a series of workshops aimed at teaching youngsters how to cook on a budget.

“A lot of the young people are on a limited budget so the skills will be really useful to them,” said Foyer spokeswoman Charlene Little.

“It’s been a great opportunity for them to learn new skills like bread making from people who are really enthusiastic about what they do.

“They’ve also been able to meet people established in their own businesses making food.”

The workshops, run with Impact Housing and Inspira, began in November and ended last week.

On the menu for the 16 to 24-year-olds were Wilf’s chilli, Staff of Life’s bread and Baba Ganoush’s soup - and those involved have now earned an Open Award Qualification in Healthy Eating.

The series of events also concluded with a Ready Steady Cook-style competition.
