SIX new works of art created by college students have gone on display at Arnside and Silverdale railway stations.

The unveiling of the artwork took place on Friday December 13.

Students at Lancaster & Morecambe and Furness College took part in the project.

Each painting reflects the natural environment of the Arnside and Silverdale area and the paintings were sponsored by the RSPB, the National Trust and the Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The artists were Becca Smith and Seaneen Price from Lancaster & Morecambe College, and Sarah Hardie of Furness College in Barrow.

Peter Robinson and Jim Trotman of the Furness Line Community Rail Partnership attended, as did Lancaster and Morecambe college lectuter, John Lambert.

Mr Trotman said: “Schemes like this one provide students at local colleges with the opportunity to have their art seen by many thousands of passengers. In some cases, this has resulted in the artists receiving commissions for additional work.

“Hopefully, getting their art seen will help their careers get started”.

As a result of the successful student art scheme this year, sponsors are now coming forward for more works of art in 2014 at Ulverston, Kents Bank, Arnside and Silverdale stations.
