A high ranking government minister visited Morecambe today - just days after a visit to the resort from Prime Minister David Cameron.

The Rt Hon Oliver Letwin MP visited SHP Ltd on the White Lund industrial estate at the request of Morecambe and Lunesdale Conservative MP, David Morris.

The company operates electronic recycling services across many locations globally and Mr Letwin is the minister for Government policy.

Mr Letwin MP said: “It’s a fantastic business, like all the best ideas in business it is very straight forward and simple but it’s very ingenious and it’s extraordinarily efficient. It’s about the most complete case of recycling I think I have ever seen of anything.”

“The most impressive thing is it all started in that garage, not much more than ten years ago and now it’s a major business turning over £4 million a year and making a healthy profit, with significant exports, it’s a real example of what we can do in Britain.”

David Morris MP said: “It’s a niche business and demonstrates how Morecambe and surrounding areas in the business community is changing. SHP is right next to the new road and is a success story, built out of seeing a direction to go in before everybody else and it demonstrates how the community in Morecambe are. We’re very resilient, and with the new regeneration prospects with the new power station on its way in the next ten years, Morecambe is open for business.”

Just last Friday, Mr Morris welcomed Prime Minister David Cameron to an international furniture transporters, F. Edmondson & Sons on Southgate.
