A 12-year-old green-fingered Milnthorpe boy has brightened the lives of local residents with his amazing wreaths.

Cody Smith, who has astounded locals with his gardening abilities, created 12 festive wreaths to donate to the community.

The Dallam School pupil handed over the largest and most impressive of these to residents of Milnthorpe’s Croftside Residential Home.

Cody’s mum Julie Smith said: “He’s absolutely passionate, even obsessive, about gardening; which is amazing for a boy of his age. This summer, he won top prize in the dahlia section of the Milnthorpe Flower Show and last year he came top with his gladioli.”

Cody is already on the committee of Milnthorpe Allotment Association and is the youngest member of the national Dhalia Society.

“He spends all his pocket money on plants and can often be found with his head in a gardening book,” said Julie.

Although interested in gardening, she says she isn’t as obsessed as her son: “He probably gets it from his grandad and great grandad who were both very keen gardeners,” she added.
