A SOUTH Lakeland man’s stunning photograph of summer daisies has earned him an exclusive inclusion in next year’s BBC Countryfile Calendar.
David Jackson’s shot of the flowers in a field near Kendal has been selected to represent July in the annual charity publication.
The photo competition attracts tens of thousands of entries each year and the proceeds from sales of the calendar go to the BBC Children in Need appeal.
This year, amateur photo-graphers were invited to submit pictures on the theme of Our Living Landscape.
A delighted Mr Jackson, who lives at Longlands View, Kendal, said: “I was pleased to find out I was selected from the 57,000 entries and to be in print. I’m very proud to be part of raising money for Children in Need.
“I took the image at Tenterfell near Kendal on a windy evening as the sun was going down. It was captured on a Sony Bridge camera, it is not expensive make. I’ve always thought it’s what’s behind the camera rather than the kit.”
In addition to seeing his picture, Mr Jackson received a framed copy of the image signed by veteran presenter John Craven, who also congratulated him on his achievement.
Mr Jackson, who has worked as a graphic designer for Badger Press in Bowness for 25 years, said photography was a hobby rekindled from his youth.
“I studied black and white film photography back in 1980 but have only recently taken it up again when I was bought a digital camera and it opened up a whole new world.”
To order a copy of the 2014 Countryfile Calendar, which costs £9, visit hcs-calendar.co.uk or call 0330-333-4564. The BBC will donate £4 from each one sold to Children in Need.
