SHIVERING swimmers will be brrrr....aving the elements tomorrow to take the plunge in Windermere.

They will be taking part in the first ever Boxing Day Dip set against the backdrop of the UK’s Adventure Capital.

Cumbria’s very first official festive open water swim will take place at Brockhole, The Lake District National Park Visitor Centre, Windermere, at 11am.

It is a mass start and splash and everyone is invited to participate. But organisers are warning that the water temperature is expected to be minus five degrees Centigrade.

If the water is frozen, organisers say that the ice will be smashed!

Registration on the day will open at 10am, although you can register in advance at chillswim.com. It costs £6 to dip on the day and those taking part are welcome to raise money for their chosen charity: Andrea Runkee, Cumbria Tourism’s Adventure Capital Project Manager said: ‘’Cumbria is home to lakes, meres, waters, and tarns making it a natural home for open water swimming.

“Chillswim’s Boxing Day Dip will give people the chance to try the uplifting experience of winter swimming, something that should be experienced by everyone at least once!

“Events like this showcase what the UK's Adventure Capital, the Lake District, has to offer, and whet the appetite for future adventures. So head along and get involved and you will be able to truly say that you have taken part in something on the wild side in 2013."

Director of Chillswim, Colin Hill said: ‘’We are really excited about hosting the Lake District’s first ever official Boxing Day Dip at Brockhole. Combining Festive Fun and open water swimming in the beautiful and iconic English Lakes really couldn’t be better and is bound to make this Christmas really memorable for those that dare to take the plunge!. We look forward to the Boxing Day Dip becoming established as one of the ‘must do’ Boxing Day Swims in the coming years.”
