INNOVATIVE Staveley company Pogu is aiming to improve the safety of children in buggies with a new line in reflective stickers.

Founder Tiffany Solender devised the product after her husband Neil was involved in a near-miss with a car while pushing their daughter in her buggy.

She approached manufacturer 3M with her idea and now the high visibility stickers are being produced for the nursery market.

“The idea came about after my husband was at the zebra crossing with my daughter in her buggy at dusk,” said Mrs Solender. “The car approaching the zebra crossing failed to stop immediately. The driver claimed not to see them as the buggy wasn’t ‘lit’.

“I decided to approach 3M as they are the world leaders in high visibility reflective materials and we started work on a black reflective sticker that reflects white at night with light.”

The stickers are described as ‘discreet during the day, yet visible up to 365m in low light conditions’.

Last year, Pogu launched its mini trail crampons in 2012 for running and walking on ice and snow.

“They are now worn all over the world from Siberia to Alaska and of course, the Lake District,” added Mrs Solender.
