THERE were 48 arrests over the county as party-goers got into the festive spirit on "Black Eye" Friday.

In the Barrow and Kendal area there were less than 20 arrests, with most described as ‘low level drunkenness and minor offences’.

In comparison to other years, where an average of 60 arrests was made, this was a fairly quiet night for Cumbria police, said officers.

Inspector Dan St Quinton, at Kendal police station, said: “This was typically a standard Friday night for us.

“It was fairly quiet with not as many people out and about compared to other years.”

However, cells were full in Kendal and Barrow.
