SOUTH Cumbria police are appealing for witnesses after a man sustained serious head injuries during an alleged assault outside a Barrow nightclub.

Officers say a 23-year-old local man was admitted to Furness General Hospital following the incident close to Club M in Hindpool Road during the early hours of yesterday (Friday).

His condition today was said to be stable.

Another local man aged 20 was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and detained at Barrow Police Station.

Police are appealing for anyone in the area who may have witness the alleged assault, which occurred at around 4am, to call the non-emergency number 101 and ask for Barrow CID.
