THE first draft of a development plan for Kirkby Lonsdale will be made public on January 21.

An open meeting at the Lunesdale Hall at 7.30pm that night will discuss the plan’s themes, which include public safety, young people, housing and infrastructure, economy and enterprise, environment health and well-being, and communications.

Public response will help to turn the document into an action plan.

The meeting will also consider the future of what was the Victorian Weekend. Last held about five years ago on the first weekend in September, it was replaced with a variety of activities, none of which caught the town's imagination.

The meeting will explore a number of ideas, including how to capitalise on the town being a location for the BBC drama Jamaica Inn, to be shown at Easter.
