Claughton Parish Council to be closed

NOTICE of planned closure of Claughton Parish Council has been served by outgoing clerk Caroline Goleczka.

The parish council had recovered from planned closure a few years ago, which would have resulted in a merger with Hornby with Farleton Parish Council, but has now voted unanimously to close by March 2014.

This decision was based on a lack of local interest and support and the absence of any candidates to fill the vacancies for a clerk and two councillors despite extensive advertising.

Lancaster City Council is advising on the process of closure.

Erm, it isn't possible for a Parish Council to vote to close itself. They have no power to do so.
