A CUMBRIAN training provider is currently offering apprenticeships in trades including mechanics, electrics and welding.

Gen2 expects to take on around 400 apprentices this year, along with 250 higher education learners, as it provides more than 10,000 days of short courses.

Holly Woodhead, marketing manager for Gen2, said people in the South Lakes and Kendal area could apply for apprenticeships as they included firms in the area.

Situated on the Lillyhall Industrial Estate in Workington, Gen 2 was formed 13 years ago and has gone from an initial intake of 71 apprentices to more than 1,000 apprentices – with applications open until February 28 this year.

The posts are in a variety of disciplines including, mechanical, electrical, welding and fabrication, project management, business administration and ICT.

The company is also undergoing a rebrand to better represent the different parts of its business including apprenticeships, advanced learning, higher education, learning solutions and commercial training.

Chief Executive Mike Smith said: “Reaching the significant milestone of 1,000 apprentices in learning and a new year signalled the ideal time for Gen2 to relook at its brand.
