THE Post Office in Grasmere has been targeted by would-be burglars.

Cumbria Police are investigating an attempted break-in at the Red Lion Square business, which took place sometime between 5pm on Monday and 8.15am yesterday.

"Offenders have attempted to force their way into the post office and activated an alarm," said a police spokeswoman.

"They then left the scene without gaining entry."

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area between Monday night and Tuesday morning and may have seen someone acting suspiciously.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cumbria Police on 101 and ask for Detective Sergeant Andrew Lamb.

Alternatively they can ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
