THE chair of the inquiry into maternity deaths at Morecambe Bay hospitals is urging anyone who received ‘unsatisfactory care’ to come forward.
Dr Bill Kirkup, leading the investigation into the deaths of mothers and babies at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, has released an open letter to anybody affected by care on the maternity or neonatal units between January 2004 and June 2013.
“The Morecambe Bay Investigation has been set up to examine the historic standard of care received by mothers and babies,” it says.
“As chairman of the investigation I would like to invite any families who previously received unsatisfactory care from the maternity and neonatal services at Furness General Hospital, Lancaster Royal Infirmary and Westmorland General Hospital during this time period to contact the investigation to talk about their experiences."
Anybody who gets in touch will be able to remain anonymous, he said.
The investigation was launched following the deaths of mothers and babies at Furness General Hospital.
Anybody who wishes to get in touch with Dr Kirkup is asked to email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01772-536382 during normal office hours.
