A CARK-IN-CARTMEL Christmas light display which drew from visitors to the area from all over the country raised £1,800 for charity.

Jeremy and Mandy Voakes, who covered their house in hundreds of festive lights, say they were ‘overwhelmed’ by the generosity of those who gave the money, which will now be given to the NSPCC.

“We were really pleased with this years display,” said vet, Mr Voakes.

“After the first couple of days the weather took a turn for the worse and it was a bit of a nightmare trying to keep them all working and upright in the gales and rain - but most kept going until the last couple of days when fuses started to blow.

“We were overwhelmed by everyone that visited and kindly donated.

“It was unbelievable to see cars still queuing in the middle of the gales, watching the lights going sideways!”

He said visitors came from across the UK, staying in local pubs.

“Obviously this is enough incentive to do it all again next year,” he added.
