VOLUNTEERS have been hard at work helping to maintain the Lancaster Canal south of Kendal.

A work party from the Lancaster Canal Trust, including three new members, cleared the overgrown grass verges on Stainton Bridge and checked the recently installed stop planks for leaks.

Other workers continued clearing undergrowth towards the eastern end of Hincaster Tunnel and horse path.

Meanwhile, at Millness depot, volunteer engineers installed a new gate post and rehung the large heavy gate while others cleared the yard of dense undergrowth and debris. Work also continues on the trust’s boat Waterwitch to make her ready for the 2014 season.
