POLICE are investigating an allegation of sexual assault in Ulverston.

A woman, aged 17, went into Barrow Police Station on Monday (20) to report that she had been sexually assaulted.

The incident allegedly occurred around 2.30am on Sunday (19), in the area of Market Street.

Following enquiries, a 18-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of rape and is helping police with their enquiries.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to make contact.

Detectives are asking anyone who was out in Ulverston on Saturday night and may have been making their way home across Market Street between 1 and 2 am, and may have heard or seen something suspicious to contact Cumbria Police on 101 and speak to the on duty Sergeant at Barrow CID.
