SHOVELS created by Lakes School pupils to commemorate the centenary of World War One have been judged by engineering giants BAE Systems.
The Barrow-based company were also on hand to offer expert guidance and advice on future careers to the Troutbeck school’s GCSE Design and Technology students.
BAE representatives Kevin Murphy and Mike Harris were at the school last week to judge the quality of the shovels.
The school has recently become a Global Learning partner school and departments have been working collaboratively to enhance teaching and learning.
Robin Sharp, Head of Design and Technology and global learning co-ordinator said: “For many young people with practical skills, Cumbria has many opportunities for jobs and careers within science and engineering.
“BAE systems have been shown to lead the way in providing quality training and education programmes.
“We were delighted that they were willing to come into school and provide the kind of advice and guidance that has really inspired our students to be visionary about their futures.”
