A HEART charity has found from a survey that more people in the North West would prefer a romantic gesture over an expensive gift on Valentine's Day.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) says that almost three quarters (84 per cent) would prefer actions rather than presents.

Around 22 per cent think a love letter is the most romantic thing their partner could do for them, with 18 per cent suggesting breakfast in bed.

Every Valentine's Day, BHF shops allow people to post a heartfelt 'love note' in their windows as a way of recognising their special someone.

All people have to do is pop into a local BHF shop with a minimum £1 donation and leave their 'post it' style note with a message on for their loved one.

BHF has shops in Kendal, Bowness and Barrow, as well as clothing and book banks where you can donate.

The charity says every penny of profit raised goes on to fund life-saving research into the fight for every heartbeat.

This year, the charity wants to turn its shop windows red and support the BHF’s flagship fundraising campaign called 'Ramp up the Red'.

On February 7, the BHF is asking the great British public to pay £2, Ramp up the Red and help fight heart disease.

Visit bhf.org.uk/red for more information on how to get involved.

Ann Lomas, Area Manager for the BHF, says: “It’s interesting to see that 83% of local North West people prefer romantic gestures over expensive gifts.

"Posting a Love Note in a shop window is one of the easiest ways to express your love for that special someone whilst the small donation of £1 will help the BHF fund life-saving research into heart disease."

“Why not also Ramp up the Red on the 7th February. Our shops will be turning red so you’re sure to find the perfect red item to help you ramp it up!”
