FIREFIGHTERS cut free a casualty involved in a two-vehicle road traffic collision in Staveley last night (January 24).

At 4.55pm, firefighters attended the crash on the A591 Staveley bypass.
The incident blocked the road in both directions and diversions via Staveley were put in place.

The public were advised to avoid the area if possible and the accident caused ‘heavy’ traffic through Staveley village.

A passing motorist told The Westmorland Gazette that she had seen six emergency vehicles at the scene and that the roof of one of the cars appeared to have been removed.

A Cumbria fire spokesperson said: "Crews used special cutting equipment to free a casualty who was trapped.

"They were then passed to the care of the ambulance service."

North West Ambulance Service has been contacted for an update on the casualties. Injuries are yet unknown.
