A CHALLENGING 12 day fundraising walk for the MS Society UK is set to raise thousands to go towards a cure for the illness.

The ‘Wainwright’s Coast2Coast MS Walkroute’ starts from St Bees on Saturday August 30 and concludes at Robin Hood’s Bay on Thursday September 11.

The charity aims to raise £80,000 for research into a cure for MS.

The event is being organised by a group of ‘adventurous Australians’ who want to encourage keen local people to join them. Multiple Sclerosis is the most common diseases of the central nervous system affecting young adults today.

Treatments have come a long way in 20 years but the disease is progressive and there is currently no cure.

A spokesperson for the event said: “This walk is our attempt to give those people living with MS a renewed sense of purpose and enjoyment for life by giving them hope that a cure is possible. “Let’s go the extra mile and walk towards a world free of MS.”
