EXERCISE is the latest buzz word at Kendal’s Castle Park Primary where a new fitness trail has been created around the perimeter of the school grounds.
The fitness stations include sit-ups, press ups, hurdles, leapfrog, wobble balance beam and chin ups.
In keeping with the school’s environmental ethos, almost all the items have been manufactured from recycled plastic. The children have already been using the trail as part of their PE lessons, and it has been variously described as ‘cool, tricky, awesome, exciting, tremendous and adventurous’.
Head teacher Helen Richardson said: “I’m extremely proud of the way the children presented their bid to the Neighbourhood Forum which enabled the school to secure funding towards this project, which will benefit them, the school and the local community.”
Financial assistance also came from Lakeland Ltd, Friends of Castle Park and another local company.
Any local sports groups wanting to use the fitness trail out of school time should call 01539 733108.
