SEVENTY-three of the county’s motorists tested positive or failed or refused to provide a test during Cumbria police’s drink-driving crackdown.
The force-wide campaign ran from December 1 to January 1, and saw 2,275 people breath tested. Of those, 1,945 were tested as a result of proactive roadside checks and 330 were administered following a collision.
Twelve of those who failed were involved in an accident. Last year 82 motorists were prosecuted for drink driving.
