KENDAL Concert Band marks five successful decades of music making this year and retired conductors and past band members are invited to join the celebrations.

Jim Quincey and band are well into rehearsals for its April 25 (7.30pm) performance in aid of the Kendal Mayoral charities, a joint concert with Diessen Band in June, and a World War One memorial concert with K Shoes Male Voice Choir in July.

However, Jim is stepping down from the podium and the band needs a new musical director to carry on the sterling work. KCB chairman Bill Duxbury said was an exciting time for the band:

He added: “We are looking for a new musical director who will build on the excellent work done by Jim and his predecessors over many years. The new appointee will play an important part in our 50th anniversary celebrations this year.”

KCB is a community band and welcomes members of all ages and abilities. It has an incredibly varied repertoire, ranging from classical overtures and marches to show tunes and modern pop songs.

Celia Wilson, who has played flute with KCB for more than 25 years, explained: “Looking back, the thing that means most to me is the friendships I have enjoyed over the years. Sharing interests like music with people is what keeps communities together.”
