CUMBRIA Police have today (Sunday Feb 9) named the victim of a fatal road traffic collision yesterday.

The woman who died was Margaret Bold, 76, from Mansion Gardens, Egremont.

She had been driving a Ford Ka at 9.36am yesterday on the A595 at Bigrigg.

Also in the car was an 86 year old woman from Egremont, who was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary at Newcastle by air ambulance.

She remains in a critical but stable condition.

The other vehicle involved was a Peugeot 508, driven by a 40-year-old man from Whitehaven.

Police said he has been taken to West Cumberland Hospital to be checked over.

The road was re-opened at 1.45pm after collision investigation officers examined the area.
