A MOTORIST who failed to provide a breath test after being arrested on suspicion of drink driving has been banned for three years by Kendal magistrates.
South Lakeland Magistrates’ Court heard that Georgina Leavy, 58, of Waterside, Kendal, was reported to police on November 10 by another motorist who saw her vehicle ‘weaving’ in the road as she drove down Stricklandgate in the town.
Lisa Hine, prosecuting, said that when Leavy was arrested and taken to the police station she refused to provide a blood sample because ‘she was scared of needles’.
The court heard that in her police interview Leavy said she had no recollection of driving her car but admitted she had drunk three quarters of a bottle of white rum.
She said she had gone to buy some food from a Spar shop and take it to her son.
Leavy was also ordered to carry out a 12-month community order with supervision and a six month alcohol treatment requirement. She was also ordered to pay £150 court costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
