MORE than 100 hardy people slept out under the stars last night to raise money for Cumbria Community Foundation's Winter Warmth Appeal.
The charity estimates 300 people elderly people die in Cumbria every year due to the cold weather.
Last night people gathered in a field beside the Low Wood Hotel in Windermere for 'The Big Sleep', a mass sleep-out challenge which hopes to boost the total fund to £100,000.
It currently stands at just under £70,000.
All of the money raised will be used to provide support to elderly people who are suffering because of fuel poverty.
