WALKERS are being urged to ‘take extra care’ after a man slipped and suffered an injury walking on a wind and rain-lashed fell.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue team issued the warning after being called out to help a Lancashire man, who got into difficulties walking on Hayeswater Gill at around 3.30pm yesterday.

“The man had slipped and injured his left ankle while walking with friends in very wet and windy conditions,” said a spokesman for the team.

“Patterdale MRT would like to remind people to take extra care while setting out in wet and windy conditions.”

The team drove a Land Rover to the site to pick up the man, before he was transferred to a North West Ambulance Service vehicle and taken to Cumberland Infirmary for treatment.

The rescue was attended by nine team members and lasted two hours in total.
