ST Mary’s Hospice in Ulverston has unveiled the winning design for its 25th anniversary year logo.
Depicting the Hospice’s 'forget-me-not' emblem as part of a flowerbed, the winning design was selected by staff and trustees from over 50 entries from schools and colleges in South Cumbria.
The talented artist behind the new logo is 18-year old Shannon Thompson, an art foundation course student at Barrow 6th Form College.
The entries were shortlisted down to seven from which hospice staff and trustees eventually agreed on Shannon’s.
The new logo will feature on the Hospice’s website and selected promotional material during 2014 to symbolise the 25th anniversary year of the ‘people’s hospice’ as it is affectionately known in the local area.
St Mary’s Hospice first opened in 1989 to provide help, care, and support to people with life-shortening conditions and their families.
Twenty-five years on, it has now helped more than 15,000 people across South Cumbria.
Shannon said: “I have some personal experience of the hospice and it is a very good cause so I’m really pleased that my design was chosen.”
Elaine Close, Community Fundraiser at St Mary’s Hospice, said: “The quality of the designs was very strong and they were very empathetic of our ethos. It was fantastic to have so many entries from some very talented students.
“The new design will be used for one year only and we hope that it will become easily recognisable to people as our 25th anniversary emblem and help to raise more awareness of the single forget-me-not as our ongoing logo.”
As part of the anniversary year, a new building is being constructed on the current site in Ulverston, which, once complete, will provide extended Day Hospice services for people across the South Lakes.
A topping out ceremony and open afternoon will be held at the Hospice on Thursday 6th March.
