WOULD-be apprentices and their parents are being urged to get along to Kendal College next week for a major open evening.

To mark National Apprenticeship Week, Kendal College wants people to go along next Thursday to find out more.

It takes place on Thursday March 6 between 4-7pm will feature:

* Student demonstrations

* A CV building workshop

* Information stations and employer stands

The college says experienced advisors will be on hand to answer questions throughout the evening and student ambassadors and current apprentices can answer questions and deliver tours of the facilities.

Graham Wilkinson, Principal at Kendal College, said: "The College has apprentices ranging from Business Administration to Engineering. Apprenticeships offer a great way to earn as you learn. They can be an alternative to full time education in colleges or Sixth Form, with excellent progression opportunities on to higher education.”

Kendal College already works in partnership with over 100 employers to deliver a wide range of apprenticeships and work based training courses in the South Lakes and North Lancashire including Brathay Trust, Invisible Systems and Low Furness School.

It also manages its very own finishing school, The Castle Dairy Restaurant - staffed almost entirely by the Kendal Colleges’ own apprentices.

The Brathay Trust, based in Ambleside, works closely with Kendal College to support up to eight apprentices each year across a range of subject areas.

Liz Dales, HR manager of Brathay Trust, said: “Apprenticeships offer individuals work experience, personal development and the opportunities to gain an advantage over job applicants with perhaps less work experience.

"Our experience over the past few years is that we learn as much from them as they do from us.”
