WATER has been restored to properties in the Burton Road area of Kendal - but disruptive work on the pipes will continue until next week.

Temporary traffic lights which were put in place yesterday following a burst water main in the area will remain in place between Asda and the leisure centre until Monday or Tuesday.

That was the traffic information given out today, despite United Utilities' website saying the problem is now 'resolved'.

The traffic warning states that 'there are still restrictions on the road as the burst is taking longer to repair than first thought'.

Burton Road has been reduced to one lane while the pipes are accessed.

A United Utilities spokeswoman explained a water main burst in the area in the early hours of yesterday morning, but confirmed engineers had managed to re-route water from other areas to affected properties.

The problem is thought to have begun at around 1.30am.

United Utilities received around 16 calls from residents but were unable to say how widespread the problem was at its height.
