POLICE in Appleby have issued a warning about a scam regarding horse sales.
They say people who have placed classified adverts are being targeted via phone and email.
Those carrying out the scams have asked victims, or would-be victims, for credit card details.
"We have been made aware of individuals targeting sellers via classified adverts," explained a spokeswoman for the force.
"Please do not give out details to anyone across the phone."
She said the English used in emails, requesting a horse be shipped, is 'generally not very good'.
"Please remain vigilant and report all suspicious incidents to police," she added.
Anybody with information or who falls prey to this type of scam is asked to contact police on 101.
