A CAREERS fair for jobs within Cumbria's NHS will be held later this month.

The event will be run as part of Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust's new approach to members' meetings - meaning those who attend will also be able to put questions to the board of directors and chat to governors.

“This a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages to come along and find out about opportunities right on their doorstep if they want to pursue a career in the NHS," explained Julie Thompson, HR manager for the trust.

"Whether it is a young person about to leave school who wants to find out about careers in nursing or physiotherapy right through to people who may be living with a long term condition and want to get back into work – there’s something here for everyone and if you have a passion, drive and commitment, then we want to hear from you.”

The NHS Careers Fair will take place on March 20 between 1 and 7pm at Lakes College, Workington.

On the day different services will be represented and health and social care organisations will provide students, trust members and the general public with an insight into a career within the NHS.

There will also be providers from Cumbria County Council, Job Centre Plus and Cumbria Voluntary Services providing information on training and volunteering opportunities within the county.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit drops in sessions to gain experience in completing an application form, how to structure a CV, including a covering letter, and how to register for NHS Jobs.

Chair, Mike Taylor, added: “We have changed the focus of our members meetings this year to appeal to different members including for the first time, holding an event over the afternoon and evening so that people who are usually at work or school can attend.

"We are also carefully selecting the topics this year, recruitment into the NHS is proving to be a challenge both nationally and locally and by showing the local population what the NHS can offer we hope that it will become easier to recruit staff in the future."

Later in the year the trust will hold a technology fair.

Anybody who wishes to attend the fair can simply turn up on the day.

Booking is required for the Board Q&A session and this can be done by contacting Nichola Murray, membership officer, on 01228-608 375.
