KIRKBY Stephen Scout Group has just returned from a Norwegian exchange.

Nine Explorer Scouts and adult volunteers from three units across Kentdale and Eden, including the 1st Kirkby Stephen Scout Group, joined together for the adventure to southern Norway.

The Cumbrians met with local Norwegian Scouts on two days during the week, together cooking, skiing, snow-hole digging, mini ski-jumping and swimming.

Tessa Higgs, 17, from Kirkby Stephen, said: "It was one of my best weeks ever, cross country skiing with the best Scouts ever!"

The Scouts participated in cross country skiing in the fells above Rjukan, Telemark, the area known for wartime resistance and sabotage operations against the Nazi war effort.

The expedition was one of many adventurous activities run by Cumbria Scouts for boys and girls from aged six upwards, encouraging them to look for challenges, enjoy the outdoors and bring their experiences back to Cumbria for the benefit of others.
