A MAN has had a ‘lucky escape’ after he became cut off by the tide near Sandgate Farm at Flookburgh.
At 12.40pm today (March 3) Bay Search and Rescue and Ulverston Inshore Rescue were contacted by Liverpool Coastguard to assist in the operation.
The man was rescued by a team of six people from Ulverston Inshore Rescue's Arancia Lifeboat and brought ashore at Sandgate.
The crew arrived back at base at 2.15pm.
The incident has been described as a 'lucky escape,' after a local farmer had seen the man in trouble and quickly called the coastguard.
The coastguard then advised him to stay where he was as there were a number of gullies around him.
Mike Davis, training officer from Bay Search and Rescue said: "Today's rescue highlights the need for people to check the tide times and be aware of their environment, thanks the swift response from the farmer a tragedy was avoided."
