ONE hundred people braved the rain to visit Austwick Hall’s open garden day.

Garden enthusiasts turned out in force to admire drifts of snowdrops and moss covered rocks in the ancient woodland behind the house, near Settle.

The National Garden Scheme Yorkshire would like to thank all those who turned out on Wednesday February 26.

Unusual snowdrops were on sale, provided by Mary Green Plants from Hornby, and delicious cakes and cups of hot tea were served in the stone floored gate house beside roaring wood fires.

Owners Michael Pearson and Eric Culley said there was a good chance that they will discover another new snowdrop variety, having previously found a pure white double.

The Yellow Book 2014 booklet listing all the gardens open for the National Gardens Scheme is now available.

All proceeds go to nursing and charities including Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Help the Hospices, Carers Trust and Parkinsons UK.
