AN outreach service supporting people’s end of life decision making is to be rolled out across the country, including South Lakeland.

The Big Lottery Fund has committed £1 million of funding to the ‘My Life, My Decision’ project.

In partnership with Age UK South Lakeland, national charity Compassion in Dying will offer training to health and care workers, supporting them to have difficult conversations about end-of-life rights with their clients.

The project, which will begin in June, follows on from the success of the End-of-Life Rights Advocacy pilot project in East London.

Danielle Hamm, director of Compassion in Dying, said: “Advance Decision forms, which allow individuals to set out their preferences for their own end of life care in a legally binding way, have already played a vital part in the project and this is why Compassion in Dying provides free Advance Decisions for all.

“Over the past 12 months more than 2,000 East London residents have been made aware of their legal rights at the end of life. I look forward to seeing this service help others in South Lakeland too.”
