THE annual pancake race took place in the picturesque village of Troutbeck today (March 4).

Children and adults turned out in force to compete to mark Shrove Tuesday in front of a crowd of about 80 people.

Town Crier Tony Legge said: “It’s been going since 2000, and it’s a great way for the community to get together.”

There were individual races for girls, boys, toddlers, men, women and veterans, plus the battle the local hotel battle.

The Queen’s Head Hotel in Troutbeck won the hotel race, scooping the prestigious pancake cup for the second year running.

A competition was also held to see who could toss their pancake for the longest time.

Prizes of chocolates, wine, champagne and vouchers from the hotels were awarded to winners.
