KENDAL Bus Station is closing for an estimated three weeks for essential improvements, South Lakeland District Council has announced.

Contractors are to carry out resurfacing work starting from Monday March 17.

During the intervening period, bus services will be re-routed, said the authority in a statement.

It said Blackhall Road will not be affected and there will be no road closures.

The work is being done for SLDC by contractors NPS NW Ltd.

The authority said resurfacing was last carried out 'many years' ago and the paving is now 'very uneven and needs to be replaced'.

The council said the bus station has undergone significant improvements over recent years.

The work, along with repairs to seating and new pigeon netting, will ensure the highest standards for bus passengers in the future, said the council.

The programme of improvements was developed in partnership with Kendal Bus Station Users Group, Cumbria County Council Highways, and bus operators Stagecoach.

A spokesman for SLDC said: “We will work closely with Stagecoach, taxi operators, and our contractors NPS to ensure minimum disruption to bus and road users.”
