A SIGHT loss charity has a new director to lead in its essential work.

Sight Advice South Lakes helps blind and visually impaired people across the South Lakes region.

And now it has welcomed Mark Griffiths back to his home turf, having come from Shelter Scotland, where he had a national role leading their support and therapeutic services.

Mr Griffiths said: “As someone who has lived in Cumbria for many years, I am delighted to again be back working here.

“Sight Advice South Lakes is a very well regarded charity that does fantastic work and it is an honour to be part of this dedicated team of volunteers and staff who are making such a difference to the lives of blind and visually impaired people and their families across South Lakes.”

Mr Griffiths is now in his third week having replaced Carl Hodge, who was in the position for five years.

Mr Hodge, who started out as a volunteer, has now moved on to Barrow and Districts Society for the Blind.

Mr Griffiths added: “This is a particularly exciting time to join Sight Advice, as we have raised well over a third of our £325,000 Building Appeal target.

“Having a dedicated building in the area will allow us to offer an even greater range of support, advice and access to our services.”

Formed in 1956, Sight Advice South Lakes provide a wide range of services including information, advice, support and equipment for people of all ages with sight problems.
