IT was a watery rescue for a farmer whose trusty collie ran over the edge of a craggy outcrop at Ullswater while gathering sheep.
The farmer went into the water after the dog, who had managed to get onto a small ledge at water level.
The man swam ashore and, wet and shaken, made his way to Patterdale.
He managed to contact the Police with the assistance of a local resident.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were called out and launched its Rigid Inflatable Boat ‘Patrick Scotty’.
They quickly located the stricken canine – which was cold and wet but unharmed – and reunited both dog and owner.
The rescue lasted 90 minutes and was attended by seven team members.
