A six metre deep sinkhole has appeared at Harrington, Workington.
Police are asking members of the public to stay away from the area just off the coastal path, near the children's play park, until the extent of the problem has been fully assessed.
The sinkhole is believed to be wider than the two-foot gap which can be seen from surface level.
