REVERED British band Suede and folk-punk hero Frank Turner have been confirmed as the first two headliners for this year’s Kendal Calling festival.

The multi-award winning event has announced the first wave of acts appearing over three days at Lowther Deer Park in August.

Also on the bill are hip hop pioneers De La Soul, Madchester royalty Happy Mondays, indie band Razorlight and current chart star, singer-songwriters 2013 Brit Awards critics’ choice winner Tom Odell and Newton Faulkner, and modern mod Miles Kane.

The first headliner Suede are one of the most revered British bands of the last 25 years with Brett Anderson and co racking up a host of much-lauded indie singles and albums.

After a hiatus the band returned in 2010 and released the critically and commercially acclaimed album ‘Bloodsports’ in 2013.

Frank Turner has gigged his way to star status over the last few years, accruing a large and devoted following, placing him at the forefront of the guitar renaissance in the UK.

Frank has played the festival twice before and has risen through the ranks to secure a headline slot with his band The Sleeping Souls.

For lovers of electronic music, The Glow Tent this year will feature David and Stephen Dewaele - famous worldwide as both Soulwax and 2manydjs.

Other confirmed acts include drum and bass don Andy C, Radio 1’s new music head honcho Zane Lowe, electro duo Bondax, Metalheadz royalty Goldie, and a host of swashbuckling turntable evangelists.

Across the other seven stages, confirmed acts include indie stalwarts Athlete, breakthrough indie rockers Breton, Rudimental collaborator Ella Eyr and undefinable musical guru Mr Scruff.

Local bands flying the flag for Cumbria so far include Kendal-born band Women’s Hour, The Lucid Dream, Jakarta Club, The Orchid Hunters, Mylittlebrother, and Gritty Britain.

Kendal Calling will be celebrating its ninth year and the past 12 months have seen it named as best medium-sized festival at the UK Festival Awards.

After breaking the world record for most people dressed as Superman in one place (867) at last year’s event, this year’s fancy dress theme is ‘Kendal Calling Goes Beyond The Stars’.

Kendal Calling takes place on August 1 to 3.
